Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

about dealing with dog poop.

1. Is the way we approach dog waste removal really such a big deal?

Yes, there are three major reasons that we all need better ways to deal with dog poop:

A. Dog ownership is growing. In just the last six years, the number of households in the U.S. who own dogs has increased by over 5 million (according to The American Veterinary Medical Association.)

B. More communities and government agencies are recognizing that environmental pollutants (even naturally occurring ones such as human and pet waste) can have a negative impact on water resources and they are taking steps to minimize this impact.

C. Five decades of environmental research indicates that urban growth and popular pet culture affects the bacterial contamination of watershed resources. Fecal coliform contamination from pet waste accounts for up to 90% of all bacterial watershed pollution in urban areas of the U.S.

2. Are your flush-eze bags compatible with septic systems? Also, I'm a little confused, if I carry a bag on a walk will it hold up until I can get back to the house to flush it? Thx!

Our FlushEze work fine with your septic tank. They completely dissolve and will not hurt the enzymes in your tank. The septic tank is designed to break down feces and distribute it into your lawn.

Our patented bag design contains the waste to keep it off of your shoe yet flushes immediately in the toilet. Our PoochPouch is designed to carry the used bags as well as the new ones so that you don’t have to carry them … you are hands free to control your dog. The PoochPouch also carries your cell phone, keys, dog treats and can be used as a water bowl. We are also developing a smaller pouch that will connect to your leash if you don’t like fanny packs. Simply put them into the detachable pouch and when you get home dump it into the toilet or if you don’t want to bring it into your house install one of our WasteAways that connect to the cleanout between the house and the septic tank and flush it outside along with pet waste from your yard.

3. Why are FlushEze™ baggies better than regular plastic or paper bags?

FlushEze are flushable. You don’t throw them in the trash where dog poop can pollute our water supply. They are completely water soluble and won’t clog your pipes. Once you’ve picked up the dog poop, you can toss the whole thing n the toilet and flush immediately. FlushEze bags offer the most earth-friendly and sanitary approach to dog waste removal.

Neither paper nor plastic can be flushed down the toilet and we don’t advise using paper or plastic bags to “transport” dog waste before dumping it in the toilet. It wouldn’t be sanitary to toss paper or plastic bags into a recycle bin after they’ve held dog waste – and throwing them away almost defeats the purpose of flushing.

4. I use bags that are biodegradable, isn't that enough?

Of course, bio bags aren’t as destructive to the environment as traditional plastic that won’t break down over time, but that’s only half of the problem with dog waste.

You shouldn’t be dumping pet waste into the trash at all – and most biodegradable bags are designed specifically for that purpose. Dumping pet waste into the trash, employing a dog waste clean-up service or using a process that utilizes composting or enzyme reduction will not prevent waterborne bacterial contamination as efficiently as a waste-water treatment facility. The only system designed specifically to process waste (human or animal) before it enters the ecosystem is your local sewage plant. So, use the dog waste system built into your home – the toilet! It couldn’t be easier.

5. Wouldn't burying it be a better way to approach dog waste removal?

No, burying waste only delays the inevitable, since groundwater seepage and/or storm water runoff are the chief culprits in watershed contamination. Besides, it’s messy, unsanitary and makes for unsightly landscaping.

6. Can the baggies be flushed anywhere? Will they clog my toilet?

The FlushEze baggie can be safely flushed in any standard commode – including RV toilets! The bagged waste will not clog the pipes as long as there is adequate water and flushing action during the cycle.

8. Are FlushEze just for dogs?

FlushEze is designed to pick up after dogs, but could be used for any relatively small animal. For larger animals, you can make that decision based on the size of the waste, the size of a FlushEze bag, and the size of your pipes.

8. How do I actually get the waste into the bag?

FlushEze baggies are designed to be used as you would a glove. Slip your hand into the bag, grasp the pet waste, pull the bag backwards onto your hand, and then safely roll up the bag and flush it. We have illustrated this process if you’d like more visual instructions on dog waste removal>

9. What if I'm out walking the dog and there isn't a toilet nearby?

We've created the PoochPouch for just this type of situation. The PoochPouch features a removable, external compartment to store "used" FlushEze along with a primary compartment that will hold a large box of FlushEze (60 count), or a water bottle and other goodies. Two small, detachable side pockets are perfect for holding keys, a cell phone, ID, etc.

The best part about the PoochPouch is that it straps around your waist so you can always walk hands-free with your dog(s)!

10. How can I keep the PoochPouch clean when it's being used to transport dog waste?

The external, detachable compartment where you'll store the dog waste (after you've picked it up with a FlushEze bag) is rubberized on the inside. You can detach it and rinse it out after every use, if you like.

In fact, you can even use the detachable external compartment as a temporary water bowl when you're out on a walk - though you would want to make sure it was clean and sanitary inside.

The entire PoochPouch is made to be machine washable, and can be put in the dryer (on low heat) without damaging it.

11. The idea of carrying dog poop indoors doesn't appeal to me. How can I make sure I don't get it on my hands, clothing or anyplace else?

It's smart to be concerned about sanitary handling of pet waste. This is why we spent a long time on the design and fabrication of the FlushEze bag - and then we patented it! The size, weight, composition and strength of the FlushEze bag all had to be balanced with the need to make it water-soluble and useful.

We tested many combinations of strength and formulas for the bags (picking up after our own dogs!) to get it right. Our final product has a composition that is both safe and sanitary. If used properly, the FlushEze baggie will provide a leak-proof and spill-proof dog waste system for just pennies a day.

If you own a home, we recommend installing the WasteAway™ for dog waste removal outdoors. With this dog waste system, you'll never have to carry dog poop indoors. It's a simple and economical flushing system that attaches directly to the clean-out port of any residential or commercial sewer line, using a simple garden hose to provide the water and pressure to flush waste directly into the sewer for disposal and treatment.

If you're picking up the dog poop around the yard, you don't even need FlushEze. You can scoop it right into the WasteAway and flush it into the sewer. No muss, no fuss!

12. How does the outdoor dog waste system work?

The WasteAway consists of a simple pipe and flushing system that you attach to the outside of your house and connect to the clean-out pipe of any standard sewer line. It uses three-inch pipe and the flushing action is provided by a simple garden hose that is permanently attached to the system.

The WasteAway has been designed for simple installation by anybody who is handy around the house. We provide simple, easy-to-follow instructions. If you have problems, we're happy to answer your questions over the phone or via email.

Even if you decide to have it installed professionally, at just $174.95, the price of the WasteAway still makes it economical option since it will last for many years. In fact, it is guaranteed for five years.
